LED – Small Light, Big Saving

May 25, 2010

In the environmentally conscious, ever evolving world of today; the need of the hour is to save energy in all possible ways. With many innovations and advances in our efforts to this cause, one of the more promising developments is the LED light. The advantages of LED lighting are many, especially due to their mode of operation:

  • Energy Efficient – LED lights are highly energy efficient. Traffic signal lights are a strong market for them and according to a study, replacing the incandescent lamps present in most of America’s traffic signals, could reduce energy consumption by nearly 2.5 billion kWh. Imagine the savings, if the world’s light bulbs are also replaced by them.
  • Long Life – Have you ever wondered why LEDs are found in hard to reach/maintain fixtures like road signs, runway lighting etc.? It’s simple because they need no maintenance and are projected to produce a long service life of about 100,000 hours!
  • Colors – Led lights are available in a mind boggling array of colors. As opposed to the white or yellow light of the incandescent bulb, LEDs are available in a range of colors and you can use a permutation and combination of any color you desire.
  • No UV or Heat Emissions – When it comes to UV radiation and heat, LEDs produce very little of it. It is especially useful in lighting up objects like art and other heat and UV sensitive objects.

  • Durability –
LEDs are tough little things. Since they don’t have a filament like the incandescent bulb, they can not be damaged due to shock and vibrations.

These were of course the main benefits, they are also very versatile in terms of design, they light instantly and are absolutely silent. It is, literally, the light at the end of the tunnel.
